From Liverpool To New York

Ten years ago this weekend I took part in the 2002 New York Marathon.

After a 5am start with a smoked salmon bagel it was the most amazing day of my life (with the exception of wedding and births).

It was just a year after the tragic 911 bombings.

And just a month after the loss of my friend who had been fighting bowel cancer.

I finished in just over five hours.
Tired but elated after raising £8,000 for a cancer related charity.

What better way to celebrate than with a glass of red wine in The Mark hotel.

This year I will be thinking about my marathon and those who will have missed out this year.

My thoughts and prayers will also be with those brave souls in New York and across the United States who are struggling with the marathon challenge of rebuilding their lives in the aftermath of Sandy.

God Bless You.

  3. What an amazing experience Jane! LOVE the photo of you in the bath - a well deserved bath for sure - I can't imagine the toll 5 hours running puts on the body. It's so sad the race can't run this weekend…a reminder of how severe the storm really was. Have a lovely weekend, Avril xx

  5. Enjoyed the pictures from the marathon 10 years ago. NYC seems to be coming back from the storm but it is sad so many lost so much.
