Notes From A Weekend

My husband and I got up early on Saturday and had our breakfast in a cafe in the local village before running some errands including scouting menus at our local eateries for our son's 21st on the 14th.

I also picked up a Marks and Spencer skirt at my favourite charity shop for £3.99 which still had the original label on.

On Saturday evening we cooked a meal for our friends.
Sunday was spent finding new school shoes for my daughter.
Can you believe we actually found a pair of shoes we both liked?

She tried them for sizing at our local Clarks shop and then I came home and ordered tham online as there is a 20% discount at the moment if you add the code "BSTYLE".
With free delivery this took the price down from £34.99 to £ 28.00!

As the shopping trip went so well I had the energy to go for a walk in the woods with my husband and the dog before enjoying a Sunday  roast at mum's.

Tonight I plan to put my feet up, pour a large glass of wine and cuddle up with my husband to watch the final part of The Last Weekend.

How did your weekend go?

Incy Wincy Spider

I had just set up for my photo when down came all the rain.

Now I know how Incy Wincy Spider must have felt.

It was like someone had dug a big hole in the sky and poured all the world's rain through it.

I spent the next few hours in my gym kit while I waited for my clothes to dry.

One thing's for sure,  this weather certainly keeps me on my toes.

I wore:

Shoes - Converse
Jeans - Zara
Toop - H & M

Simply Blue

The children break up from school tomorrow so I am making the most of the time trying to get the house in order before chaos descends for another year.

I spent yesterday starting my closet clearout and listing some items on ebay which are here if you care to look.

I wish I was one of those organised homebodies but I have so many other interests in my life that I am always catching my tail when it comes to housework.
Ah well, onwards and upwards.

Today I wore:
Shoes - Converse (28)
Zara Jeans ( 15)
Denim Shirt - Barcleona boutique (21)
Scarf - H and M

The Wimbledon Final July 8

This photo was taken at 1.30am as we had to leave our local pick-up point for Wimbledon at 2.30am.
I knew the forecast was for sunshine and showers so I went for layers inlcuding my ski jacket.
Our  group was made up of me, my mum and my two youngest children, Briony, 15 and 12-year-old Ben.

After arriving at Wimbledon at 10am we bagged our places on Murray Mount just outside Number One Court.
It was a long wait but there was so much going on that it didn't seem four hours.
We enjoyed a Pimms or two in between dodging showers under the brollies and my son did some celebrity spotting and got his picture taken with Blue Peter present Helen Skelton who was lovely.

He also managed to chat with Jeff Tarango.

Sadly, Murray didn't win and after his game ended we watched the Boy's Doubles Final on Number One Court.
We are hoping to go again next year - the tennis was such a small part of the Coach Trip adventure.

I wore:
Shoes - Converse (28)
Jeans - Zara (15)
Vest - Gap (5)
Blouse - Boden (4)
Scarf - Boden

Four Years Ago Today.........

Four years ago today, I started blogging.

You will notice that my first blog has a different name : Work That Wardrobe.
I started blogging to help me save money.
My work as a freelance writer was dryng up and our income was rapidly dwindling.
I looked at my biggest non-essential expense and it was no surprise to find clothes topped the list.
I pledged not to spend an extra penny on new clothes for a year and the blog followed my journey.
However, being the creative sort I did apply some creative accounting to my pledge.
I could sell clothes on ebay and use the money from that to "swap" for new clothes.
Friends and family could give me gift vouchers for birthdays and Christmas and I did spend the odd Tesco Clubcard voucher on a new skirt.
I didn't say I was perfect.
But it was fun.
I played around with ideas.
I experimented.

Sometimes I looked a disaster.
I still shudder at my Star Trek outfit.
But I learnt a lot about myself.
I got the blogging bug.
And I am still  here.
Four years on.
When I look back so much has changed in the past four years.

I am no longer a freelance journalist or writer in residence at a men's prison.
Those days are gone and a new career in Education has opened up for me.
I have lost my father and my mother in law.
I have survived four years as a parent of teenagers.
Just.
And still have another eight years of that to go.
Our  marriage has survived several difficult patches and we have come out of it much stronger and happier.
Who knows what the next four years will hold but I thank you all, fellow bloggers old and new for sharing my journey.
Whether you have left a comment, emailed me, followed me or just read in silence I thank you.
During my lowest times it was so heartening to know that I had connections out there.

Thank You for connecting.

Today I am wearing an outfit in homage to that first post when I wore:  jeans, sleeveless top and Converse.

I wore:
Trainers - Converse
Trousers - Top Shop
Vest - Tesco
Necklace - Fossil

Laid Back Leggings

I am not a big fan of leggings.
As someone who is only 5ft 1in and has short legs to boot, they are generally not very flattering.
However, I discovered a magical garment in my wardrobe that eases the pain of sausage legs -  my denim shirt.
It is long enough to cover my rear end (as even the shapeliest of behinds look a bit dodgy in leggings).
I also find that wearing it open gives the illusion of slimmer hips.
I may only ever wear them at the weekend or the airport, but finding new ways to wear them has added a whole new dimension to my wardrobe.

What are your tips for wearing leggings?

I wore:
Trainiers - Converse
Leggings - Tesco
Top - Oasis
Necklace - Top Shop
Shirt - Barcelona boutique (very cheap)
