A Silver Lining

Today I received the phone call most working mothers dread.
"It's the school nurse, I am afraid your child isn't well and needs to go home."
Fortunately, I have a very understanding workplace and by 11am I was back at home with my 12-year-old tucked up in bed.
Thanks to the wonders of modern technology I was able to do a little work from home.

After a couple of hours Ben came down and asked for a cuddle.
Something he hasn't done for a while.
Then he askedm e to read stories.
After I had exhausted my oral storytelling library which included Roal Dahl's "Lamb To the Slaughter" he asked me to make one up.

I went to the computer and printed out a novel I had written for children over four years ago.
It is still in its first draft form with notes for some chapters.
But the result was, he loved it.

Nearly 13 years old and he wanted to snuggle up and listen to my stories.
It just goes to show that every cloud does have a silver lining.
I have now vowed to work on a second draft.

I wore:
Boots - Clarks
Skirt - Matalan
Shirt - Boden

  1. I love your outfit, especially the blouse. And I think you are very lucky. I am sorry that your son doesn't feel well but my son is now 38 and I'd give anything to snuggle with him and tell him stories.

  2. There's always a silver lining, isn't there? How lovely that Ben was captivated by his mum's writing, you must get to work on that novel.
Hope he gets better soon. That blouse is lovely on you, very 1960s in print. xxx
PS Sadly that catsuit was about 4inches too short for Curtise's endless legs, a right bargain at £12 for somebody!

  4. Hope your son feels better soon. Don't you love those little moments when they are still our little boys and they need us to mother them?

  5. Oh goodness, sometimes 12 can seem so grown up and then sometimes 12 can seem so young. So glad you had this time with your son, too bad it took him not feeling well but... as you said there WAS a silver lining.

Hope you work on that book now.

  7. This is absolutely adorable on you. I think this is your look!! And definitely add hats to your wardrobe. The fact that you wish for more confidence to wear them is the very reason to make yourself do it. You have the face and hair to do it beautifully too. Buy one today and wear it on your blog, please?????
