Charity Shop Finds

There are around six charity shops in our village and on Saturday  I went round them all.
I have managed to uncover some treasures in each and today was no exception.
My first treasure of the day was this lovely white cotton Dorothy Perkins skirt for £4.00 in the Marie Curie shop.

And just when I was on my way home I made my final stop at the Claire House shop where I discovered this brand new 100% linen Boden blouse for £4.95.
I always save this shop until last because it rarely disappoints.
Last winter I found this Hobbs skirt there.

I usually leave it a month or so between shops and allow myself £10.00 to spend.
This money doesn't come out of my clothing budget as I consider it a donation to charity.
The only rule I have is that for one new thing I buy in a charity shop I must donate two items to a different charity shop.
Do you ever shop in charity/thrift stores?

Today I wore:
Trainers: Converse
Skirt : Thrifted Dorothy Perkins
Vest: Tesco
Denim Shirt: Spanish shop

Sunshine Street Party

The big day dawned for our street party and guess what?
The sun came out.

There may have been a chill wind blowing but the sun shone from the time we started putting out the tables, through the festivities, and finally setting at around 8pm when we packed away.

It was a wonderful day, organised on a whim by one of our neighbours who pushed a piece of paper through everyone's door asking if anyone would be interested in having a street party.

That was three weeks ago and more than 20 people arrived for the first meeting.

My mum was one of the chief organisers and I helped her out on the craft table where we helped the younger children decorate bunting and make crowns.

We even got a visit from our Olympic Torchbearer, Nick Giles who patiently waited while everyone in the street had their photo taken with him and the torch.

Every child uner 16 was given a medal to remember the event.

Overall, a wonderful day.
Here's to the next Jubilee in ten year's time.

Trainers: Converse

Patriot Games

In honour of the Queen's Golden Jubilee I decided to play some Patriot Games.

I played how to turn an ordinary everyday outfit into a patriotic jubilee ensemble.

Take one Boden Scarf.

Raise the flag.

And there we have it - one Jubilee outfit.
Perfect for that rain-sodden street party.

I wore:
Boots - Clarks
Dress - Primark
Belt - Tesco
Scarf- Boden
Vest - Tesco

Chic Up Do

While contemplating getting my hair cut shorter earlier this week I realised I was just getting a bit bored.

After a browse on Pinterest I found this amazing new blog which features what seems like hundreds of hair tutorials.

Amazingly the blog
has  a very similar name to mine - The Small Things - and hosted by a lovely lady called Kate.

Last night my friends came round for a drink and a film (Brokeback Mountain), so I had a go at The Chic Up Do.

It's not perfect but I was pleased with the first attempt.

I wore:
Shoes - Boden
Jeans - Top Shop (Martha)
Vest - Gap
Blouse - H and M.

Hey Ho Silver Lining

I love my silver H & M top which has been a staple in my wardrobe since the 2005 Kylie Collection.

I also love my silver and blue kaftan which I bought last summer for my holidays.

Although the sun has been shining it wasn't hot enough for a bikini underneath so I opted for a silver lining.

Hey Ho!

I wore:
Trainers: Converse
Top: H and M
Kaftan: Jasper Conran
Jeans : Top Shop
Sun Glasses: Benetton

The Day The Olympic Torch Came To My Town

It passed the end of my road and we went to take our part in local history.

We waited for about 45 minutes and it was all over in a flash.

I tried several times to get a snapshot but a policeman/little boy with flag/over-excited pensioner just kept getting in the way.

I am afraid this blurred effort with the torch chopped off is the best shot I could get.

I wore: Shoes: Clarks Skirt & Denim Shirt - from a shop in Barcelona Top - Primark

Toespiration

It was the colour of my toenails which influenced my final purchase in May.
I wanted a new smart vest top to go with my Zara trousers.

Last week I had my toenails painted orange.
What I really wanted was coral but that was the closest colour my beautician had.
I was browsing around my local New Look store when I spotted this top - it was exactly the shade I had been hoping to get on my toes.

Next time I go to Boots I will take this top with me to make sure I get a perfect match.

Today was a good day to showcase my Clarks sandals which I bought back in March.
I still wish I had bought the yellow pair.

You will also notice that I decided to opt for a trim rather than a chop when I went to the hairdressers thanks to the comments some of you left.
I am glad to say that I can always rely on my loyal readers for sound advice.
Thank You.
